January 30, 2010
The Westmatch XIX meeting was held at Renton Fish & Game Club from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with clarification of dates. They are: July 30, 31 and August 1, 2010. Incorrect dates were recorded in the Cowboy Chronicle earlier and it caused some confusion.
Attending was: The Elder Katie, Moe MacDandee, Jess Ducky, Malo Mann, May B. Shecann, Johnny Pinebox, Goldie Jade, Abacus, Cedar County Sheriff, Doollee MacDandee, Bones McCracken, Hedley Lamar, Zacoto, and Margarita Villain.
After discussion the new theme will be: “Classic Westerns Around The World” A Black and White Production. Katie will send invitations to all of our European friends in the hope that we can encourage some of them to visit us and shoot Westmatch.
Each stage will have its roots in one of the old black & white TV movies only done with a European twist. Expect most of the props to be black, white, and grey which should be interesting. Our targets will continue to be white-rifle, yellow-pistol, and black shotgun for ease of viewing.
It was decided that we will present awards in all categories even if only one competitor is shooting. It was also requested that we add FCGF (Frontier Cartridge Gunfighter) to the categories. After discussion it was decided that if the competitors that want to shoot it can get a minimum of five (5) people to shoot it we would present awards. However competitors wishing to do so must notify the Match Director no later than July 10th of their intent, and send in their entries by July 20th or the category will be dropped.
We had no problem with e-mailing out the entry forms and confirmations last year so we will continue to do that. It was a huge saving over mailing them.
Katie announced that we will not have stationary R.O.’s this coming year. Instead we will appoint Posse Marshal’s that will have to have a thorough walk through, and be capable of pushing a Posse to complete all stages in a reasonable time frame.
Given the fact that we have a very capable committee of people who can walk through the stages prior to the match and correct any problems we are comfortable with Posse’s Marshal’s managing the stages.
The Stage Design Safety Committee is: Johnny Buck, Lawbreaker, Moe MacDandee, Dakota Slim, and Hazy Grey.
It allows the past R.O.’s to shoot the match, and fully enjoy shooting all the Side Matches, something they haven’t been able to do in the past.
We talked about what to do Friday night and it was decided to have a Potluck dinner for everyone on the range that would like to participate. The table and chairs will be available and it will give all of us the opportunity to enjoy each other before the busy match.
The Stage Designers got all of the information in reasonable on time last year, and we hope that they will continue the practice given the fact that it takes a long time to get the book produced and all the supercilious stuff done.
The Stage Designers will be sent a contract by Katie, and they need to run their bare bones stage at the April monthly match for timing. After that time we will do the finishing touches for the main match.
The Bag-O-Lunches were a success last year so the ladies will do it again. No one knew of any parking or camping problems to take care of.
We discussed if we should pre-publish the stages. It was decided after discussion that we would not do that. Any change from the book seems to bother people enough without further complicating it.
After lengthy discussion regarding the present scoring system, i.e. rank vs. total time we took a vote and will do total time at this match. Many pros and cons were discussed and the majority wanted to change it from rank.
Doollee MacDandee will do the Texas Hold’em game again this year, but if anyone has any ideas about more entertainment we are all ears!
Johnny Pinebox retired from his role as Side Match Director. If anyone would like to take over that job we sure could use the help. We also need help with clean up on Monday after the match. Please ask around and see if anyone would like to help in either of these areas.
It was announced that Johnny Buck will assume the role of Match Director when Katie steps down. He will officially be in charge in 2012, with Katie training him in 2010, and co-chairing in 2011.
It was suggested that the best way for him to start would be to Chair the Side Match Director seat this coming year, the group concurred, and he was elected! Congratulations J.B. and next time you will be at the meeting! :>)
With their being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 6:00 p.m. Respectfully Submitted-The Elder Katie
